#8 Pepperdine Faces #4 UCLA, #6 Cal Poly this Week

MALIBU, Calif. – The #8 Pepperdine beach volleyball team has three duals on the docket this week, first traveling to #4 UCLA on Thursday before returning to Malibu to host #6 Cal Poly on Sunday.
DUAL 5: Thursday (March 11) in Los Angeles, Calif.: #8 Pepperdine at #4 UCLA at 10 a.m. PT.
DUAL 6: Thursday (March 11) in Los Angeles, Calif.: #8 Pepperdine at #4 UCLA at 1:30 p.m. PT.
DUAL 7: Sunday (March 14) in Malibu, Calif.: #8 Pepperdine vs. #6 Cal Poly at 12 p.m. PT.

HOME ATTENDANCE — Per the current COVID-19 guidelines set by the state of California and Los Angeles County, fans will not be permitted to attend home games.
LOOKING AHEAD: The following week, Pepperdine will host #1 USC and unranked Concordia on Sunday, March 21.
WAVES WEATHER: Thursday's forecast calls for a high of 56˚ and considerable cloudiness with winds flowing South at 5 to 10 miles per hour. There is a slight chance of occasional rain show with a 49% chance of precipitation. Sunday will have a high of 62˚ with partly cloudy skies. Winds will flow Southwest at roughly 10 to 15 mph.
WAVE REPORT: The Waves have had four matches so far this season, facing now top-ranked USC in three of them and going 1-3 overall after collecting the team's first win this past weekend over #17 Long Beach State. As a team, the Waves have been most successful in the No. 3 position with a 2-2 overall record. Pepperdine has also won matches on courts one, two and four.
Simone Priebe and Melanie Paul have led the squad with two wins, both in the No. 3 position, while the pair has also played one match in the No. 2 position. Carly Skjodt and Brook Bauer have been mainstays in the No. 1 slot and have won one match. Sutton Mactavish and Alexis Filippone have marked a win in the No. 2 spot and Mary Sinclair and Jordan Benoit have won one in the No. 4 position.
OPPONENT NOTES: All-time, the Waves have gone 6-8 against the Bruins, dating back to 2013 when Pepperdine won three-straight matches by 5-0 sweeps. UCLA is currently on a five-match winning streak against Pepperdine, including a 3-2 win on neutral sand last season. This season, the Bruins have gone 4-1 this season, taking down #19 Stanford 3-2 and 5-0, #6 Cal Poly 5-0 and #9 Cal 5-0. UCLA was felled by way of sweep by top-ranked USC.
The Waves hold an 8-2 overall record against Cal Poly, dating back to 2016 when they beat the Mustangs 5-0 for four-consecutive matches through 2017. Last season, Cal Poly won their first match against Pepperdine 3-2 inn San Luis Obispo. The Mustangs have gone an even 3-3 with 5-0 wins over Tamps and Southern Mississippi and a 4-1 win over #18 Georgia State. They have also been swept three times, by then-ranked #3 USC, #4 UCLA and #3 Florida State.
