MALIBU, California – Spencer Wickens became the second Pepperdine men's volleyball player to earn the Sports Imports/AVCA National Player of the Week in the last three weeks today.
Wickens (Irondequoit, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit HS) received his third Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Offensive Player of the Week award on Monday and added his first career national award on Tuesday.
Wickens hit .500 and averaged a team-best 3.82 kills per set as the Waves defeated #9 Grand Canyon three times in three days last weekend. Over the three matches, he hit .474 (12-3-19), .520 (16-3-25) and .500 (14-2-24). He also had a pair of block assists and contributed 12 assists from his outside hitter position.
On the season, Wickens is averaging team highs of 3.17 kills and 1.74 digs per set while hitting .338.
Austin Wilmot earned the AVCA's award on March 16. The Waves and NJIT are the only schools to win the honor twice this season.
