MALIBU, California – Spencer Wickens and
Bryce Dvorak of the #4 Pepperdine men's volleyball team swept today's Mountain Pacific Sports Federation/Molten Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week awards, respectively.
For Wickens, a senior outside hitter, it's his third MPSF Offensive Player of the Week award this season, which leads all players. For Dvorak, a freshman setter, it's his first career MPSF weekly award.
Wickens (Irondequoit, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit HS) hit .500 and averaged a team-best 3.82 kills per set as the Waves defeated #9 Grand Canyon three times in three days last weekend. Over the three matches, he hit .474 (12-3-19), .520 (16-3-25) and .500 (14-2-24). He also had a pair of block assists and contributed 12 assists from his outside hitter position.
Dvorak (Newport Beach, Calif./Corona del Mar HS) averaged a team-best 2.18 digs per set in the three victories, as well as 0.64 blocks per set. He posted a career-high 17 digs in Saturday's match, second-most by an MPSF player in a match this season. Along with a career-high 47 assists, he posted his first career double-double.
Wickens also won the Offensive award on February 1 and March 1. This is the fourth time the Waves have won the Defensive award, following
Trey Cole (February 1) and
Austin Wilmot (February 22 and March 15).
Schools have swept both awards three times this season and Pepperdine's done it two of the three. Pepperdine's seven total awards lead all teams.
The Waves host #6 UCLA on Wednesday (March 31) at 3 p.m. in their home finale. The match will be streamed online via WaveCasts. Per current COVID-19 protocols, spectators are not permitted.
