Women's Tennis Holds Another Top-20 Matchup on Tuesday

MALIBU, Calif. – The fourth-ranked Pepperdine women's tennis team will play host to the 20th-ranked Cal Bears on Tuesday before kicking off West Coast Conference play this weekend.

SCOUTING THE BEARS
Standing at 10-2, Cal's only losses have come by the hands of UCLA and Colorado. Their win column includes dubs over the likes of four WCC teams, three Pac-12 teams and UCSB. Haley Giavara is the top-ranked player for the Bears at #18, followed by Valentina Ivanov at #26 and Julia Rosenqvist at #43.

Since 2018, the Waves have gone 3-1 with the Bears after halting an 0-14 losing streak dating back to the 2000 season.

The Waves defeated #21 USC for the third time this season in 4-1 fashion last week after a Lisa Zaar clinch point on court six.

Pepperdine claimed the doubles point after a clinch point on court one from Jessica Failla and Shiori Fukuda, going 6-2 over the Trojan pair of Cayetano and Cheong. In singles, #88 Taisiya Pachkaleva earned yet another quick win on court four, being the first Wave to finish at 6-1, 6-2 over USC's Dvorak.

33rd-ranked Failla earned her eighth-straight win of the dual season over #103 Naomi Cheong, 6-3, 7-5. In route to that latest win, the graduate student from Ramona, Calif. has put to rest the likes of USC's #12 Angela Kulikov, #48 Eryn Cayetano and #103 Cheong, Georgia Tech's #13 Kenya Jones, UCLA's #7 Abbey Forbes and #19 Jada Hart all on court one. The Wave was also one game from beating #3 Alexa Graham of North Carolina before a premature clinch point to end the match.
