RECAP
In doubles, Lisa Zaar (Stockholm, Sweden/Korrespondendsgymnasiet) and #88 Tasiya Pachkaleva (Moscow, Russia/School 1575) got the Waves on the board with a 6-2 win. After Cal tied things up on court three, #33 Jessica Failla (Romona, Calif./Connections Academy/USC) and #12 Shiori Fukuda (Tokyo, Japan/Hinode HS/Ohio State) battled back from an early deficit to win 6-4, winning the doubles points for the Waves.
Nearly everything came up Pepperdine in singles play. Playing on twos, Pachkaleva got Pepperdine rolling with a 6-4, 6-2 win over #43 Julia Rosenqvist. Cal got on the board to pull within 2-1, but the Waves rattled off the next two singles wins — first with Zaar's 6-4, 7-5 win on court six, then with Nikki Redelijk (Windermere, Fla./University of Nebraska HS) clinching on court four. In Redelijik's match, she won 6-1, 2-6, 6-4.
Both teams elected to play things out, which allowed Fukuda to finish her 7-6 (7-2), 4-6 win before her opponent retired in set three. Fukuda was up 3-0 in the third set at the match's end.
#45 Lexi Ryngler (Calabasas, Calif./River Oaks Academy Charter School) won her match 6-4, 7-5 to cap off Pepperdine's victory.
UP NEXT: The Waves will open West Coast Conference play by hosting Santa Clara this Friday, March 26. First serve is set for 1:30 p.m.
