Fifth-Ranked Waves Kick Off WCC Play With 7-0 Win

MALIBU, Calif. -Â The fifth-ranked Pepperdine women's tennis team opened conference play in the only way they know how- with a 7-0 sweep of Santa Clara where every court won in straight sets.

Freshman Taisiya Pachkaleva earned the clinch and her 12th dual singles win- her ninth-straight after only having lost once earlier this season.

The #5 Waves could not be bothered through Friday's match, as no court needed an extra set to finish. In doubles, Taisiya Pachkaleva and Lisa Zaar earned the first Waves' win on court two, going 6-2 over their Broncos opponents. Astrid Olsen and Lexi Ryngler finished up on court three, going 6-2 and clinching the doubles point for Pepperdine. Jessica Failla and Shiori Fukuda had their match in the bag but were cut short due to the clinch point.

In singles, #4 Failla was the first to the finish line where she easily handled Jenna Marie Gordon 6-0, 6-1 on court one. Zaar completed her match next, going 6-1, 6-0 on five, setting up #94 Pachkaleva for the clinch point.

Pachkaleva delivered a 6-2, 6-2 blow to earn the fourth point for the Waves- her ninth-straight dual singles win on the season.
