MALIBU, California – Before the 2021-22 season gets officially underway, the Pepperdine men's basketball team's preparation continues with an exhibition game at Point Loma Nazarene this Saturday (Oct. 30).
Â
The Waves and Sea Lions will meet at 7 p.m. at PLNU's Golden Gymnasium. Tickets are available through the PLNU website. The Sea Lions will live stream the game, and there will also be an audio-only WaveCasts with Pepperdine Hall of Famer Al Epstein through PepperdineWaves.com.
Â
Pepperdine is coming off a successful season that saw the Waves win the postseason College Basketball Invitational, finish third in the West Coast Conference and post a 15-12 overall record. However, the team will have a much different look as eight players moved on, including stars Colbey Ross and Kessler Edwards to the professional ranks. Eight returners are joined by eight newcomers. Jan Zidek (9.4 ppg) and Jade' Smith (8.4 ppg) are the team's top returning scorers.
Â
As one of the top teams in NCAA Division II, the Sea Lions should provide a good test. They're ranked 24th nationally and were voted the preseason favorite in the PacWest Conference. PLNU went 8-3 in an abbreviated 2020-21 season while reaching the NCAA West Super Regional.
Â
The regular season begins on Tuesday, November 9, when the Waves play at Rice. The home opener is Friday, November 12, against Idaho State. Ticket information and COVID-19 entry policies for Firestone Fieldhouse can be found here.
