MALIBU, California – After an impressive freshman season in which he took over starting setter duties for the Pepperdine men's volleyball team, Joe Karlous has been named to the USA Volleyball Junior National Training Team for this summer.
Also picked for the 20-man training team is incoming freshman Bryce Dvorak, a setter from Newport Beach, California.
The team is scheduled to train in August in Colorado Springs, Colorado, before competing in the NORCECA U21 Pan American Cup, which is also scheduled to be held in Colorado Springs. However, USA Volleyball has noted that plans are subject to change due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Karlous (Costa Mesa, Calif./Newport Harbor HS) earned Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Freshman team honors this spring. He averaged 7.42 assists, good for fourth in the MPSF, and 1.16 digs.
Karlous previously played with USA Volleyball at the 2019 FIVB U19 World Championship and the 2018 NORCECA U19 Championship.
Dvorak and Karlous are two of the four setters who have been invited to the camp.
Pepperdine ended the shortened 2020 season ranked #8 by the AVCA and with records of 8-6 overall and 3-2 in the MPSF.
