MALIBU, California – Colbey Ross of the Pepperdine men's basketball team earned All-District 9 first team honors from the National Association of Basketball Coaches today.
Ross (Aurora, Colo./Eaglecrest HS), a junior guard, was the only Division I men's basketball player to average at least 20 points and seven assists this past season. He finished at 20.5 points (second in the West Coast Conference and 22nd nationally) and 7.2 assists (first in the WCC, sixth nationally, and broke his own Pepperdine single-season record).
Among other national stats, he finished fourth in total assists (229), seventh in free throws made (176), ninth in total minutes (1,204 – which broke his own school record) and 16th in total points (656).
Ross earned All-WCC first team honors and WCC All-Tournament status, both for the second straight year.
Ross ended his season with a career-high 43-point performance in the WCC quarterfinals against Saint Mary's. That was the second-highest scoring game in WCC Tournament history and was the most by any Wave since 1973.
He scored in double-figures in 28 of 32 games this season, and had 18 20-point games and four 30-point games.
Ross broke Pepperdine's all-time assist record this season and – as long as seniors are not given an extra year of eligibility – he'll start 2020-21 as the NCAA's active career assist leader with 647. He'll also begin next year at #2 on Pepperdine's all-time scoring list with 1,763 points, just 23 behind Stacy Davis' career record.
The NABC's District 9 consists of schools from the WCC and the Big West Conference.
