NAMPA, Idaho – The Pepperdine women's indoor track team competed in the Jackson's/Nike indoor Invite at Boise State this weekend. Freshman Skyler Danley (Easton, Pa./Easton Area HS) highlighted the meet by setting a new school record in the 5,000m on Friday afternoon. Her time of 18:29.70, beat the previous record set by teammate Abbey Meck (Santa Cruz, Calif./San Lorenzo Valley HS) last season.
Â
Meck was the leader for the Waves in the mile, running a 5:22.71, which was good for fourth place. Meck was followed closely by senior Cori Persinger (Lee's Summit West HS/Bainbridge Island Wash.) in fifth with a new personal record and Danley in eighth. Persinger was also Pepperdine's top performer in the 800m with a time of 2:25.86.
Â
"This was our second indoor meet of the season and the women's team had lots of successful races!" said head coach Sylvia Mosqueda. "Friday, we opened up with the women's 4x800 with a strong showing, finishing in a time of 9:50. Skyler Danley had an impressive 5000m, it was her first ever indoor 5000 with a time of 18:29 and a new school record. Capping off the weekend on Saturday, we had a couple of great races. Abbey, slowly coming back from injury, had a solid mile time of 5:22 and Cori had a 6 second PR. Looking forward to our next indoor meet in Boise with some more personal records."
Â
Sophomore Tiffany Egbo (Gilbert, Ariz./Highland HS) had the team's best performance in the 400 meters and 200 meters, as did junior Caila Tongco (Kent, Wash./Kent-Meridian HS) in the 60 meters and sophomore Katie O'Malley (Greensburg Central Catholic HS/Fayette City, PA.) in the long jump.
Â
Pepperdine will be back in Idaho next weekend for the Bronco Invitational on February 15th.
