#6 Pepperdine Heads into Regular Season after 5-0 Sweep at Zuma

MALIBU, CALIF. – The #6 Pepperdine beach volleyball team finished up an exhibition preseason schedule with a 5-0 sweep over Long Beach City College on Tuesday afternoon at Zuma Beach.Â

Michaela Kasper and Jordan Ferrari clinched the victory for the Waves on court five, earning the squad a third-straight exhibition sweep win.Â

The team will now head into the regular season with duals against PCH Cup rival LMU and tournament-host Cal Poly at the Center of Effort Beach Volleyball Challenge on Saturday, February 29 in San Luis Obispo.

MATCH RECAP
The Waves put in some solid work today, collecting some staggering set scores to earn the victory. In a two-flight format, pairs two, four and an exhibition court six were first up to battle at Zuma. Carly Skjodt and Sutton MacTavish finished first for their team, commanding the sand with a solid 21-4, 21-2 victory over Shelby Cole and Celeste Ropati on court two.Â

On court four, Melanie Paul and Simone Priebe then finished up with a 21-6, 21-7 victory over Tia Moseby and Rachel Street to put the Waves in a position to clinch at 2-0. On court six, Pepperdine pairs Hannah Frohling and Mary Sinclair and Katie Gavin and Savana Greene went head-to-head. Greene and Gavin took the first set 21-10 before Frohling and Sinclair picked up a 21-14 win in the second to force a third. In the final set, each side went back-and-forth, but Greene and Gavin would come out victorious with a 16-14 win.

The next flight then took the courts with pairs one, three and five in action. The five's pair would finish first to clinch the overall victory, as Michaela Kasper and Jordan Ferrari bested Kennedy Freeman and Kaitlin Noel 21-8, 21-2 to make it a Waves' win on the day.

With all matches playing out to the finish, all eyes fell on courts one and three. On court one, Brook Bauer and Deahna Kraft faced Alyssa Sehman and Kailey Bruyere. The Waves one again commanded the court, securing a 21-9, 21-7 win to put the Waves up 4-0.

The final court in action was the three's pair, with Gigi Hernandez and Alexis Filippone facing off against Liz Lopez and Amanda Ferriera. The Waves were able to come away with the 21-13, 21-12 win to complete the sweep at Zuma.

Next, the Waves hit the road to open the true regular season, heading up to San Luis Obispo on Saturday, February 29 to challenge both LMU and Cal Poly and the CPSLO-hosted Center of Effort Beach Volleyball Challenge.
