MALIBU, California – After making the first two starts of his career and providing a pair of excellent blocking performances, redshirt freshman middle blocker JT Ardell of the Pepperdine men's volleyball team has been named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation's Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced today.
Ardell (Glen Ellyn, Illinois/Glenbard West HS) saw almost no playing time in the first six matches of the season, then came off the bench at BYU on February 9 for the first extended action of his career. This past week, he started both of the Waves' MPSF home victories against Concordia and USC and averaged 2.00 blocks in his eight sets. He had seven against the Eagles and nine against the Trojans, the second-most in a match recorded by a Wave so far this season.
He also contributed offensively in the two matches with 10 kills on .562 hitting (10-1-16).
Ardell is the Waves' second MPSF Defensive Player of the Week recipient this season, following redshirt freshman libero Diego Perez on January 20.
#6 Pepperdine (6-3, 3-1) visits #3 UC Santa Barbara for a non-conference match on Friday (Feb. 21) before returning to MPSF play at #13 Grand Canyon on Sunday (Feb. 23).
