ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico – The Pepperdine women's indoor track team started its 2020 season this weekend at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational which was hosted by New Mexico.
Â
Skyler Danley (Easton, Pa./Easton Area HS) was the top performer in the 3,000 meters. The freshman posted a best time by over 10 seconds in the event, going a 10:46.27 which was good for eighth place.
Â
Caila Tongco (Kent, Wash./Kent-Meridian HS) was just one, one hundredth off of her school record in the 60-meter hurdles, running a 8.97 and taking third place. Tongco also had the team's top time in the 200 meters (26.55).
Â
"Our first opener at New Mexico was great to test the ladies fitness" said head coach Sylvia Mosqueda. "On the distance side, Skyler ran an excellent 3000m running a personal record. It was also great having Abbey back on the starting line from being injured during cross country season. Caila was only one hundredth of a second off her 60-meter hurdles which was great. Everyone was looking good for the first race."
Sophomore Tiffany Egbo (Gilbert, Ariz./Highland HS) had the team's best performance in the 600 meters, as did senior Katie O'Malley (Dougherty Valley HS/San Ramon, Calif.) in the long jump, sophomore Keeley Maloney (Greensburg Central Catholic HS/Fayette City, PA.) in the 60, freshman Olivia Miller (Lawton Chiles HS/Tallahassee, Fla.) in the 800 and senior Cori Persinger (Lee's Summit West HS/Bainbridge Island Wash.) in the mile.
Â
Pepperdine's next meet is the Jackson's Nike Boise Invitational on February 7th and 8th.
