Track Women Open 2020 Indoor Season In New Mexico

MALIBU, California – The Pepperdine women's track team opens the indoor season this weekend at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Invite in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
MEET DETAILS
The race will be hosted by University of New Mexico at the ABQ Convention Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Friday and Saturday (Jan. 24-25). Racing will begin on Friday at 4 p.m.
WOMEN'S ROSTER
Junior Abbey Meck (Santa Cruz, Calif./San Lorenzo Valley HS) was one of the Waves' top runners last year and is expected to lead again. She had the best performance in the mile last year, setting the indoor school record at 5:15.83 and the outdoor record at 5:09.74. She also had the team's top time in the indoor 3,000 running 11:00.43. For the outdoor season she was also the top runner for the Waves in the 800, 1,500, 3,000 and 5,000, currently sitting at #2 on the all-time performance list for the 800.

Another key returner is junior Caila Tongco (Kent-Meridian HS/Kent, Wash.), who also set school records last season in the indoor 60-meter hurdles with a best of 8.96 seconds and the outdoor 100-meter hurdles at 14.43. She was also the leader for the Waves last season in the outdoor 100 and 200 meter races.

Senior Cori Persinger (Lee's Summit, Mo./Lee's Summit West HS) was second on the team last season in the outdoor 800 and 1,500 and senior Katie O'Malley (Dougherty Valley HS/San Ramon, Calif.) was second in the outdoor 400 meters, both athletes will be key runners this season.

The Waves are also bringing in notable freshmen in Skylar Danley (Easton Area HS/Easton, Pa.) and Olivia Miller (Lawton Chiles HS/Tallahassee, Fla.) who will contribute in the mid-distance and distance events.

Head coach Sylvia Mosqueda says: "I'm looking forward to our first indoor race at the Martin Luther King Jr Invite. We are taking 15 women to our opening race and all the ladies are looking good. All the girls are ready to race and hopefully set some new personal records. I'm excited for the Waves to have a great season."
UP NEXT
The women will have a two week break before heading to another indoor meet in Boise, Idaho for the Jackson's Nike Boise Invite on February 7th and 8th.
