Box Score MALIBU, Calif. — The Pepperdine women's volleyball team went undefeated in the opening week of West Coast Conference play after defeating Santa Clara 3-1 at Firestone Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon, collecting on 25-20, 23-25, 25-21 and 25-19 final set scores.
Hannah Frohling led the Waves (6-7, 2-0 WCC) to the win over the Broncos (10-5, 0-2 WCC) with her 19
th career double-double after amassing 19 kills and 10 digs.Â
Rachel Ahrens also hit for double-figures with 14 kills, while
Tarah Wylie led with five blocks and three aces.Â

The Waves were successful with 58 kills on 147 swings for a .231 output, while the Broncos amassed 46 kills on 139 attempts for a .201 hitting percentage. The opposition led with 8.0 blocks to Pepperdine's 6.0 blocks, but the Waves led with 65 to 58 digs. Each side put up seven aces on the day.

Pepperdine came out swinging in the first set and showed no let-up, pushing towards a 15-9 lead with multiple kills from
Alli O'Harra and
Hannah Frohling. Blocks late in the set from Frohling and O'Harra continued the Waves' success to maintaining a five-point advantage at the 20-15 mark. Frohling would be the one to close the set down with a pair of smashes for the 25-20 set score.

The Waves continued to roll in the beginning of the second set, pulling ahead 10-6 and 14-10 before the opposition started to counter. After tying it up at 14's, each side continued point-for-point en route a score of 22-22. The Broncos would be the one to end the set, however, picking up the final 3-1 run for a 25-23 set score.

With an even 1-1 score, both teams came out strong, looking to gain the advantage. It would be the Wves that would first gain the lead, after a 14-14 tie, with smashes from Frohling and
Tarah Wylie. Â Santa Clara made it exciting throughout, but the Waves looked comfortable with the advantage and momentum of play, working towards a 20-16 lead with more kills from
Rachel Ahrens. In the final moments, Frohling and Wylie each worked for some big smashes and Pepperdine capitalized on some SCU errors for the 25-21 set win.

In the fourth set, Pepperdine was ready to close the match out, busting out with a 12-8 lead courtesy of blocks from
Isabel Zelaya and Wylie. The Waves continued to roll throughout, picking up big kill efforts from Ahrens, Frohling and
Shannon Scully towards a sizeable 19-9 advantage. The Broncos started to string a few points together at the end, but Pepperdine was able to close out the set and the match with a final block from Zelaya and Wylie and a big smash from Scully for the 25-19 set win and 3-1 victory.
