Box Score MALIBU, Calif. — Three players in double-figure kills and an impressive showing at the service line helped the Pepperdine women's volleyball team to a four-set victory over San Francisco in Firestone Fieldhouse on Thursday night, opening West Coast Conference action on a high note.

Shannon Scully and
Tarah Wylie all impressed with big attack efforts, while Frohling added a career-high four aces – breaking her previous record of three aces in a single match, which she had hit seven times before. Â

After the win over USF (5-8, 0-1 WCC), Pepperdine (5-7, 1-0 WCC) will continue WCC action on Saturday at home against Santa Clara (10-4, 0-1 WCC).

PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Waves came out ready to roll in the first set, quickly picking up a 9-2 advantage with an impressive serving output from
Hana Lishman with a pair of aces and featuring block collaborations from
Rachel Ahrens,
Alli O'Harra and
Tarah Wylie,
Hannah Frohling. It would be an advantage that Pepperdine would refuse to let up throughout, working towards 18-12 and 21-13 leads late in the action. Another ace from Lishman late in the set, followed by kills from Frohling resulted in a 25-18 set win to start the day.
Â
In the second set, the Dons rallied and countered the Waves' attack en route to a small 10-8 lead to open. Although the opposition gained an 18-11 lead at one point, Pepperdine picked up the momentum and some more big serves helped the Waves back into the match, tying thins up at 20-apiece. The excitement was short-lived in the set, though, as the opposition gained a sideout and pieced some kills together for a 25-21 second set win to tie things up.
Â
USF carried the energy into the second set and at one point led 14-11. That was all the reality check Pepperdine would need, however, and after rallying with three-consecutive aces by Frohling to tie the score, Pepperdine continued with kills from
Shannon Scully to pull ahead by three. Wylie and
Isabel Zelaya maintained a solid serving presence for the Waves late in the set, putting the opposition on edge and leading the Waves to a 25-17 set win.
Â
Pepperdine continued with the momentum in the fourth and final set, starting things off with a block by Wylie and Frohling and smashes from Frohling and Scully for an 11-7 advantage. Â A back-to-back kill from
Rosie Ballo and block from Ballo, Scully in the middle of the set extended the Waves lead to 15-9 and more kills from Ballo and errors from across the net led the home team to a 20-14 lead. The Dons collected a few points here and there, but three-straight kills from Wylie in the middle and a final smash from Frohling on the outside resulted in a 25-17 final set win and the four-set overall victory.
