SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Senior left-hander Easton Lucas of the Pepperdine baseball team was named to the All-West Coast Conference second team, the league office announced on Tuesday. Joe Caparis and Wyatt Young were named honorable mention. Young was also named to the All-Freshman team, as was Trevor Kniskern. Â
Lucas was a breakout star in his final year as a Wave, putting together the best season of his career. As the steady Saturday starter, Lucas went 5-4 overall and 4-2 in conference play, striking out 57 batters against WCC opponents, tied for second best in the conference. In league play, he put up a 3.32 ERA and walked only nine batters. The second-team honor is the first of his career.
After having the best offensive year of his career, junior catcher Caparis earned his first postseason honor in being named an honorable mention. He led the team in conference play, hitting .387 in 19 games and driving in seven runs. Behind the plate, he did not make a single error, and threw out two would-be base stealers.
Â
Young made an immediate impact in his first year in Malibu, starting every single game of the year and leading the team in batting average, hitting .313. In WCC play, he hit .294 with 35 hits, one home run and nine RBI. In the field, he was stellar, making just four errors to put up a .962 fielding percentage.
Â
Kniskern was thrust into a starting pitching role toward the end of conference play, and did nothing but impress. The freshman righty made three starts and eight total appearances in WCC play, compiling a 3-4 record in 29.2 innings pitched and striking out 19 batters.
Â
The Waves finished the season at 24-25 and 14-13 in WCC play.
