Waves Honor Seniors in Final Game of Season

MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine baseball team honored its nine seniors in the final game of the season, falling 4-0 to Saint Mary's on Sunday.

The Waves end the season with a 24-25 overall record and a 14-13 West Coast Conference record. They will miss the WCC Tournament for the second time in the past six years.

BIG WAVES
  • Junior infielder Quincy McAfee (Houston, Texas/Westside HS) got one of two hits for the Waves on Sunday, going 1-for-4.
  • Junior infielder Duncan McKinnon got the Waves' other hit, going 1-for-2.
  • Freshman RHP  Jack Baird (Parker, Colo./Legend HS) started the game for the Waves, going five innings, striking out four, and giving up three unearned runs.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
Prior to the start of the game, Pepperdine honored its ten seniors before their final time playing at Eddy D Field Stadium. The ten seniors were Matthew Kanfer, Easton Lucas, Michael Mahony, Jonathan Pendergast, Saul Sandoval-Estrada, Benjamin Slattery, Christian Stoutland, Cory Wills, Eddy Yost and assistant coach Danny Worth.

A pitcher's duel until the fourth, the Gaels got on the board after two straight singles to lead the inning off. Then with two outs, another single loaded the bases. A throwing error allowed two runs to score with two outs, and an RBI single gave the Gaels a 3-0 lead through four innings.

Neither team had much going in the middle innings, the 3-0 score broken up only by an eighth inning solo home run that would move the score to the final 4-0 mark in favor of the Gaels.

The Waves finish the year in fifth place in the West Coast Conference, just a single game outside of the top-four finish needed to earn a berth to the WCC Tournament in Stockton, Calif.
