MALIBU, California – After the Pepperdine men's volleyball team won the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation's regular-season title this past weekend, senior outside hitter David Wieczorek was rewarded with his second MPSF/Molten Offensive Player of the Week award of the year and the seventh of his career.
Wieczorek (Chicago, Ill./Loyola Academy) previously earned the award on February 11, and he also earned AVCA National Player of the Week honors that week.
In home wins over #6 USC and #14 Concordia, Wieczorek hit a remarkable .659 (31-2-44) while averaging 5.17 kills and 5.50 points per set. He led all players in kills in both matches, with 13 against the Trojans and 18 against the Eagles. In the Concordia match, no other player had more than seven. On his Senior Night against the Eagles, he hit a career-best .739 (18-1-23).
Wieczorek ranks second in the MPSF in kills (3.84), service aces (0.43) and points (4.58), and fifth in hitting percentage (.372).
The Waves ended the regular season with a total of seven MPSF weekly awards. In addition to Wieczorek's two, senior Kaleb Denmark had both an offensive and a defensive award, Kevin Vaz had two defensive honors and Noah Dyer collected a defensive accolade.
The MPSF regular-season title, Pepperdine's first since 2014, gives the #4 Waves (20-6, 9-3) a first-round bye in the MPSF Tournament and the top seed. They'll host the MPSF semifinals and finals for the first time since 2007 on April 18 and 20.
