MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine baseball team got another outstanding pitching outing, as
Easton Lucas threw eight shutout innings in the Waves' 5-0 rout of PCH-Cup Rival Loyola Marymount.
The Waves (19-16, 10-7 WCC) clinched the season series over the Lions (24-18, 12-8 WCC) for the first time since 2016.
BIG WAVES
- Senior LHP Easton Lucas (Simi Valley, Calif./Grace Brethren HS) was stellar, throwing eight full innings, striking out eight and walking only one, picking up his fourth win on the year.
- Junior infielder Aharon Modlin (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge HS) hit a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Waves a 5-0 lead.
- Junior catcher Joe Caparis (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./Palos Verdes HS) went 4-for-4 on the day, and also scored a run.
- Junior infielder Quincy McAfee (Houston, Texas/Westside HS) went 2-for-5 with two RBI.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Waves got the scoring going in the fifth inning, when Caparis scored on an error.
Brandt Belk then singled through the right side, scoring
Wyatt Young. Matthew Kanfer then reached on an error, scoring McAfee to give the Waves a 3-0 run after five innings.
In the sixth, McAfee singled up the middle to score Modlin, giving the Waves a 4-0 lead through six.
Modlin then came up in the eighth inning, and hit a ball to deep left-center field over the fence to secure the Waves' 5-0 victory over the Lions.
Lucas was outstanding through his eight innings, striking out eight and walking only one. He was relieved by
Christian Stoutland in the ninth, who put up a perfect inning to close out the game.

The Waves look for the sweep on Sunday at 1 p.m. Along with the game, the Waves will be welcoming back members of the 1979 College World Series team for their 40th anniversary. Festivities will happen before first pitch.
