Box Score LOS ANGELES – The Pepperdine baseball team led top-ranked UCLA for seven innings before a three-run eighth gave the Bruins a 3-2 win at Jackie Robinson Stadium.
The Waves (17-15) got some excellent innings out of
Trevor Kniskern, but the offense of the Bruins (28-6) was too much in the later innings.
BIG WAVES
- Junior infielder Quincy McAfee (Houston, Texas/Westside HS) had one of two RBI for the Waves, a double in the fifth inning. It was one of two hits for McAfee.
- Senior outfielder Matthew Kanfer (Playa Del Rey, Calif./L.A.C.E.S.) went 2-for-4 on the day, with the other RBI, an RBI single in the first.
- Freshman RHP Trevor Kniskern (Lighthouse Point, Fla./Pompano Beach HS) was dazzling in the first start of his collegiate career, going 5.1 innings, striking out five and not allowing an earned run in the no-decision.
GAME RECAP
The Waves got things going right away in the first inning, when Kanfer singled up the middle, scoring Young from second after back-to-back singles to start the game. After a full inning of play, the Waves led 1-0.
In the fifth, Pepperdine broke through again, when McAfee doubled to deep left center, scoring
Joe Caparis, who reached second after a single and a groundout. The Waves led 2-0 after five innings.
The Bruins took the lead in the seventh, after a bases-loaded groundout and a 2-RBI single gave them the final 3-2 lead after seven innings of play.
