MATCH RECAP
The Waves took to doubles first, where the tandem of
Adrian Oetzbach and
Tim Zeitvogel took court one into a tie-breaker. The pair defeated 43
rd-ranked Sean Hill and Jeffery Hsu 7-5 in a thriller but BYU ultimately garnered the doubles point.
In singles,
Matias Sborowitz won in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 over Sam Tullis, finishing first and evening the overall score to 1-1. Soon after, Zeitvogel took court five by storm, defeating Ben Gajardo 6-2, 7-5.
The Cougars took two courts to put BYU ahead of Pepperdine 3-2, but the Waves kept rolling. On court two,
Corrado Summaria needed an extra set to overtake Hsu after being defeated 6-2 in the first set. Summaria came back with a vengeance in the second and third sets, though, going 7-6 and 6-1 to round out his win, putting the Waves back even with the Cougars.
All the pressure was put on
Enrique Luque Rico on court four, where he stood last. He took a calm 5-7 loss in his first set to Mateo Melendez, but shook off the loss and stormed back, going 6-3, 6-1 to take his court and win the match for the Waves at 4-3 overall.
