Box Score PROVO, Utah – The Pepperdine baseball team once again jumped out to an early lead only to be answered in the following half inning in Friday's 4-2 loss to BYU.
The Waves (16-14, 7-7 WCC) outhit the Cougars (24-8, 10-4 WCC) 11-6, but could not string any together in the latter half of the game.
BIG WAVES
- Sophomore infielder Brandt Belk (Houston, Texas/Westside HS) went 2-for-3 on the day, and drove in the game's first run in the third inning.
- Senior outfielder Matthew Kanfer (Playa Del Rey, Calif./L.A.C.E.S.) had the Waves' other RBI in the third.
- Junior LHP Easton Lucas (Simi Valley, Calif./Grace Brethren HS) went 7.0 innings, striking out nine batters and surrendering only two walks.
GAME RECAP
For the second game in a row, the Waves jumped out to an early lead. In the third inning, the Waves loaded the bases and Belk hit a fly ball to center, scoring
Joe Caparis from third on the sacrifice. Kanfer did the same, scoring
Wyatt Young, giving the Waves a 2-0 lead after two and a half innings.
BYU answered in the home half of the third with four runs on two hits, taking a 4-2 lead after three innings of play.
A pitcher's duel throughout, Pepperdine starter
Easton Lucas was once again stellar, striking out nine in seven innings, the only blip on the day coming in the third inning, allowing BYU to score four runs.
