Wieczorek Repeats as MPSF Player of the Year

MALIBU, California – Pepperdine senior outside hitter David Wieczorek earned his second consecutive Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men's volleyball Player of the Year award today, becoming just the fourth player in league history to claim multiple top honors. He was one of four Waves recognized by the MPSF.

Wieczorek was joined on the All-MPSF first team by senior opposite Michael Wexter. Senior outside hitter Kaleb Denmark was on the second team and sophomore setter Robert Mullahey made honorable mention.

The Waves have now won eight MPSF Player of the Year awards, more than any other school. He's the second Wave to win the award twice, following George Roumain in 1998 and 1999.

Wieczorek (Chicago, Ill./Loyola Academy) has earned All-MPSF honors for four straight years, the last three on the first team, as well as the second team in 2016. He ranks second in the MPSF in kills (3.84), service aces (0.43) and points (4.58), and fifth in hitting percentage (.372).

Wexter (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way West HS) made the All-MPSF first team for the first time after collecting honorable mention as a junior. He ranks second in the MPSF in digs (2.04), fifth in kills (3.57), fifth in service aces (0.32), fifth in points (4.22) and sixth in hitting percentage (.353).

Denmark (Redlands, Calif./Arrowhead Christian Academy), starting for the first time as a senior, earned his first MPSF postseason honor. He ranks ninth in the MPSF in service aces (0.26) and 15th in digs (1.49) along with 2.88 kills.

Mullahey (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa HS) collected honorable mention status for the second straight year. He leads the MPSF in assists (10.28) and is 13th in digs (1.54), and has led the Waves to an MPSF-best .343 team hitting percentage.

#4 Pepperdine (20-6, 9-3) won the MPSF regular-season title, the program's first since 2014, as well as the first outright championship since 2007. That gave the Waves the top seed and a first-round bye in the MPSF Tournament. They'll host the MPSF semifinals and finals for the first time since 2007 on April 18 and 20.
