Meck Wins 1,500 Meters at Beach Opener

LONG BEACH, California – Abbey Meck won the women's 1,500 meters and both she and Caila Tongco turned in a pair of top-10 finishes to lead the Pepperdine track team at the Beach Opener on Saturday.

Meck (Santa Cruz, Calif./San Lorenzo Valley HS), a sophomore, took first place in the 1,500 with a time of 4:49.03, beating her closest competitor to the tape by just .01 of a second. Meck also was fifth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:23.38.

Tongco (Kent, Wash./Kent-Meridian HS), a sophomore, had a pair of eighth-place finishes in the women's 100 and 200 meters, running 12.50 and 26.05 seconds, respectively.

Junior Katie O'Malley (San Ramon, Calif./Dougherty Valley HS) took 10th place in the women's 400 meters in 1:05.04.

There were three top-10 finishes on the men's side. Junior Treet Allison (Canyon, Texas/Canyon HS) was sixth in the 800 meters in 1:57.71, freshman Jackson Felkins (Southlake, Texas/Carroll Senior HS) was seventh in the 1,500 in 4:06.30 and sophomore Justin Touhey (Stony Point, N.Y./Don Bosco Preparatory HS) was 10th in the 1,500 in 4:07.12.

Junior Grace Palmer (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin HS) was the Waves' top finisher in the women's 800 meters. In the men's 400, sophomore Brandon Davis (Troy, Mich./Troy HS) had a PR of 51.86 seconds that moved him to #3 on the Waves' all-time list. Senior Nick Heath (Scotts Valley, Calif./Scotts Valley HS) was the top Pepperdine runner in the men's 3,000.

Pepperdine's next meet is Cal State Fullerton's Ben Brown Invitational next Friday and Saturday (March 8-9).
