FULLERTON, California – Six Waves – Abbey Meck, Treet Allison, Jackson Felkins, Nick Heath, Justin Touhey and Tim Wells – turned in top-five finishes for the Pepperdine men's and women's track teams at Cal State Fullerton's Ben Brown Invitational on Saturday.
Â
"Despite thinking we were going to have spring break conditions, it was pretty chilly today," Pepperdine Coach Robert Radnoti said. "Despite that, our teams had a lot of PRs. It's another great step on our way to more outstanding performances as the spring continues. Our coaches are doing a wonderful job and the athletes are training hard."
Â
Felkins (Southlake, Texas/Carroll Senior HS), a freshman, had the best overall finish as he took second place in the men's 5,000 meters in 14:53.01, a time that moved him into the #5 spot on the Waves' all-time list. He was one of four Waves in the top seven in that event, as Heath (Scotts Valley, Calif./Scotts Valley HS) was fourth, sophomore Justin Touhey (Stony Point, N.Y./Don Bosco Preparatory HS) was fifth and junior Jalen Frantal (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville Central HS) was seventh.
Â
In the men's mile, Wells (Burbank, Calif./John Burroughs HS), a sophomore, took third place in 4:29.72. Junior Treet Allison (Canyon, Texas/Canyon HS) was sixth and sophomore Kieran Halewyn (Lake Oswego, Ore./Southridge HS) was eighth. Allison also had a fifth-place finish in the 800, followed by Halewyn in eighth.
Â
Sophomore Brandon Davis (Troy, Mich./Troy HS) moved up to #2 all-time in the men's 400 in 51.02 seconds and he also ran the 200 today.
Â
On the women's side, Meck (Santa Cruz, Calif./San Lorenzo Valley HS), a sophomore, took fourth place in the 5,000 meters in 17:34.27, a PR by 15 seconds. She is #3 all-time in that event at Pepperdine.
Â
Sophomore Caila Tongco (Kent, Wash./Kent-Meridian HS) was eighth in the 100 hurdles in 15.07 seconds, just one-one hundredth of a second off her school-record time. Tongco was also the top Wave in the 100 meters.
Â
In the 800, freshman Annelies Ondersma (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./University Liggett School) took eight place, followed by junior Lupita Perez (Fillmore, Calif./Fillmore HS) in ninth and freshman Riley Wright (Chandler, Ariz./Corona Del Sol HS) in 10th. Senior Catie Barilla (Alta Loma, Calif./Los Osos HS) was 10th in the 400 hurdles.
Â
