Play Suspended in Tuesday’s Game with Cal Poly

Box Score MALIBU, Calif. –Play was suspended due to darkness on Tuesday, as the Pepperdine baseball team was trailing Cal Poly 11-6 in the middle of the eighth inning. The game will resume when the Waves travel to Cal Poly on May 7th.

Though they trailed the Mustangs early, the Waves had two innings in which they score all six of their runs before Cal Poly fought back to retake the lead.

BIG WAVES

Cal Poly struck first in the first inning, scoring twice on RBI-singles to take a 2-0 lead after one. They scored twice more in the third to go up 4-0.

In the bottom of the third, after a Wyatt Young single, Kanfer doubled deep into right center, scoring Young from first. Kanfer was then brought in after a hit batsmen and a walk loaded the bases for Wills. He walked to cut the Mustangs' lead to two runs. Modlin then singled through the 3-4 hole, scoring both Kanfer from third and Charlie Welch from second, tying the game at 4-4 after three innings

Cal Poly tied the game back up at six in the sixth on a sharp single up the middle and another RBI single into left. Then in the seventh, a bases-clearing triple and an error allowed the Mustangs to take a 9-6 lead.

Before play was suspended due to darkness in the middle of the eighth, Cal Poly scored twice more to take an 11-6 lead after seven and a half innings.
