MALIBU, California – David Wieczorek of the Pepperdine men's volleyball team added to his lengthy list of honors from the past week when he was named the Sports Imports/American Volleyball Coaches Association Division I-II National Player of the Week today.
 
Yesterday, he was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation/Molten Offensive Player of the Week. Off the Block named him its National Outside Attacker of the Week, and he earned the group's National Offensive Player of the Night award following both of his matches against two top-10 teams last week.
 
It's the second time in his career that Wieczorek (Chicago, Ill./Loyola Academy), a senior outside hitter who is a two-time All-American, has earned the AVCA's national weekly award. He's also the last Wave to pick up the prize, back on February 27, 2018.
 
In the Waves' three-set sweeps of then-#7 BYU and then-#9 Stanford, Wieczorek hit a combined .571 (26-2-42) over six sets and averaged 4.3 kills, 1.3 aces and 6.2 points per set. He had a remarkable 14 kills on 19 errorless swings against the Cardinal, setting a career best for hitting percentage (.737) in a match. He also hit .435 (12-2-23) against the Cougars.
 
Wieczorek's serving was also terrific, as he had five aces against BYU and three against Stanford.
 
Wieczorek leads the Waves with 3.92 kills/set and he's hitting .357 on the year. In the MPSF, he ranks second in aces (0.54), second in points (4.78), third in kills and seventh in hitting percentage. On Pepperdine's career lists, he's up to ninth in aces (112) and 17th in kills (1,036).
 
This is the 30th AVCA National Player of the Week award for Pepperdine, tied for second-most among volleyball programs.
