MALIBU, Calif. — Hannah Frohling,
Madison Shields and
Alli O'Harra, of the Pepperdine women's volleyball team, all garnered West Coast Conference All-Academic honors, as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon. Frohling and Shields tabbed first team acclaim, while O'Harra received an honorable mention nod.
This is the third-first team nod for Frohling, as she earned the honor in 2017 and 2018, while also garnering CoSIDA Academic All-District first team honors in 2017 and second team accolades in 2018 and 2019. Frohling currently has a 3.94 grade point average and will finish studying Sports Medicine at Pepperdine.
Throughout her time with the Waves, she also earned All-WCC first team acclaim in 2018 and 2019 and honorable mention honors in 2017. She has been on the Pepperdine Dean's List in 2018 and has been a Pepperdine Scholar-Athlete and WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll 'gold' honoree all four years. Frohling is also a vice president of the Waves Leadership Council (Pepperdine's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee) and is very involved on campus.
On the court, Frohling averaged 3.00 kills/set on a .219 hitting percentage, while adding 0.35 aces/et, 1.44 digs/set and 0.48 blocks/set for her team this season.
Shields picks up her first-first team honor as a sophomore this season. As a freshman, she had earned WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll 'gold' honors and Pepperdine Scholar-Athlete honors in 2018. This season, she had marked a 3.97 GPA while studying Biology.
As the first Wave off the bench for defensive support, Shields has been instrumental to her team's success this season. She averaged 1.96 digs/set after posting 214 total digs this season, while also helping the effort with 0.23 assists/set and 25 total assists.
This is the second WCC All-Academic honorable mention nod for O'Harra, as she achieved the feat in 2018 as well. She also has been a two-time Pepperdine Scholar-Athlete and WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll 'bronze' honoree with the Waves. As of this season, she has garnered a 3.418 grade point average while studying Sports Medicine.
This season, O"Harra has played in 112-of-114 sets possible, tallying 1.44 kills/set on a .248 success rate. She also amassed 0.80 blocks/set after posting 90 total blocks with six solo rejections.
This season, 23 nominated volleyball student-athletes posted a GPA of 3.50 or better while 12 recorded a mark of 3.75 or higher.
At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to her team.
