Box Score MALIBU, Calif. — Another big service effort put forth by the Pepperdine women's volleyball team, led by a tied-career high six aces from
Tarah Wylie and another five from
Rachel Ahrens, propelled the Waves to a staggering 3-0 sweep over PCH Cup rival LMU in Firestone Fieldhouse on Friday night.
The Waves (14-10, 10-3 WCC) are in the lead for the PCH Cup battle this season, outscoring the Lions (13-12, 7-6 WCC) 6.5 to 2.0 with the victory tonight. Pepperdine took the win with 25-7, 25-13 and 25-18 final set scores.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
In the first set, the Waves set the tone, amassing a quick 7-1 lead with aces from
Rachel Ahrens and blocks from
Tarah Wylie. Another pair of service aces from
Hannah Frohling, followed by yet more service aces from Wylie continued the Waves on to a 17-3 advantage. Pepperdine continued with the strong attack and helped with blocks from Ahrens and Frohling towards set point. An attack error from across the net closed the set 25-7.Â
Â
The Waves kept rolling in the second set, building on the first will more aces from Wylie and multiple kills from both
Shannon Scully and
Alli O'Harra for an 11-4 gap. The service line was strong and Wylie downed her fourth and fifth aces to help the cause, along with smashes form O'Harra and Frohling towards a 18-13 lead. Pepperdine kept rolling with Wylie at the service line, producing a 7-0 run to close the set with a 25-13 victory on a final Wylie ace.
Â
With the Waves up 2-0, the Lions came out strong in the third set, taking the first 4-2 lead before the home team was able to counter and tie things up 6-6. After a see-saw battle throughout the middle of the set, Pepperdine placed a few choice kills from Ahrens to gain the 16-14 lead and force an LMU timeout. Another kill from O'Harra and an ace from Scully caused a second LMU timeout and gave the Waves a 19-14 advantage. Kills from Frohling late in the action and a fifth ace from Ahrens put the Waves in a position to close. Scully would do the honors with a final kill for the 25-18 set win to complete the sweep.
