MALIBU, Calif. — The Pepperdine women's volleyball team has three matches left on the docket for the 2019 regular season. The Waves will begin the final road trip with a trek up north to take on Santa Clara and San Francisco on Thursday and Saturday, before heading over to Provo for a final matchup against #13 BYU on Tuesday. Tuesday's match will stream live on ESPNU.

AAA: AHRENS ASICS ACES —
Rachel Ahrens currently has 47 aces tabbed this season, which ranks tied for 2nd in the Pepperdine women's volleyball record books for most aces in a single season. With at least three matches left on the docket, Ahrens looks to set the record which is held at 48 aces by Katie Wilkins in 2003 after 111 sets played. Wilkins also ranks 2nd in the record book with 47 aces in 2002.
CAREER NOTES —
Rachel Ahrens and
Hana Lishman are on career-performance watches. Ahrens currently has a 0.37 aces/set output after nearly two seasons with the Waves, which currently ranks atop the Pepperdine women's volleyball record books. Lauren Agajanian averaged 0.36 aces/set to hold the record, after totaling 38 aces in 165 sets played from 1993-94. Ahrens has amassed 64 aces in 172 sets played since the 2018 season.
In her fourth year with the Waves as the starting libero,
Hana Lishman has amassed 1,645 total digs after marking 437 total sets played, which currently ranks #2 in the Pepperdine women's volleyball record books. Steve Robinson leads the Waves' past efforts with 1,750 total digs in 404 total sets played from 2008-11.
Tarah Wylie leads the record books for most sets played by a Wave all-time. She has played in 444 sets throughout her career to earn the honor. Lee Hoven, from 1984-87, had led the record books previously with 438 sets played. Lishman is also close to the top, with 437 sets played in the past four seasons.
Wylie also currently ranks 3rd all-time in career total blocks for Pepperdine after having tabbed 450 total blocks throughout her career. The all-time block-leader is Sophia Milo, who tabbed 517 blocks in 400 sets from 2003-06. In second is Victoria Adelhelm, who marked 455 blocks in 433 sets played from 2009-12.
SQUAD GOALS — The Waves have gone 16-10 overall and 12-3 in the West Coast Conference at this point in the season. The team has averaged 13.45 kills/set on a .249 success rate, while also tabbing 12.32 assists/set, 1.72 aces/set, 14.28 digs/set and 2.21 blocks/set this season. The Waves have allowed opponents 11.98 kills/set on a .206 output, with 11.39 assists/set, 0.98 aces/set, 13.96 digs/set and 2.11 blocks/set this season thus far.
Shannon Scully,
Hannah Frohling and
Rachel Ahrens leads the squad with 3.15, 3.00 and 2.71 kills/set this season. Scully has amassed 321 kills on a .237 clip, while marking 0.25 aces/set, 3.06 digs/set and 0.49 blocks/set. Frohling has put up 222 kills on a .222 success rate, with 0.36 aces/set, 1.59 digs/set and 0.46 blocks/set for the Waves. Ahrens leads the team in aces with 0.47 aces/set after amassing 47 aces. She has also marked 274 kills on a .250 hitting percentage, along with 0.61 digs/set and 0.66 blocks/set for the Waves.
Tarah Wylie and
Alli O'Harra lead the squad at the net with 1.17 and 0.82 blocks/set respectively. Wylie has amassed 119 total blocks with 15 solo rejections, while also amassing 2.50 kills/set on a .343 output. She is third on the squad with 0.31 aces/set after tabbing a team-second 32 aces thus far. O'Harra has posted 1.50 kills/set on a .259 hitting percentage. She has totaled 83 total blocks with six rejections as well for her team.
Isabel Zelaya has been the primary playmaker for the Waves, tallying 81 sets played and amassing 793 total assists for 9.79 assists/set. She also adds 2.00 digs/set and 0.43 blocks/set this season. On the back row,
Hana Lishman and
Madison Shields hold down the line, amassing 3.47 and 1.92 digs/set respectively. Lishman has put up 354 total digs this season in 102 sets played, while adding 0.69 assists/set and 0.24 aces/set. Shields has totaled 190 total digs, along with 0.21 assists/set this season.
LAST WEEK, TODAY — Last week, the Waves downed both Saint Mary's and Pacific to close out the home games. In the sweep over SMC, Pepperdine posted 48 kills on a .286 success rate, with four aces, 10.0 team blocks and 46 digs. The Waves allowed the Gaels 34 smashes on a .136 output, with two aces, 8.0 team blocks and 39 digs.
Shannon Scully and
Tarah Wylie led the Waves with 13 and 12 kills respectively. Scully also added 10 digs for a double-double, while Wylie put up a team-high five blocks alongside
Alli O'Harra.
Rachel Ahrens also added nine kills on a .438 clip, with two aces, four blocks and three digs, and
Hannah Frohling was good for nine kills, two blocks and an ace as well.
Isabel Zelaya led with 41 assists, while
Hana Lishman tabbed nine digs throughout.
In the four-set win over Pacific, the Waves marked 51 kills on a .238 output, with eight aces, 14.0 team blocks and 76 digs. Frohling led the team with 17 kills, while adding three blocks and two aces. Wylie and Scully each marked 10 kills apiece, while Scully added 14 digs and five blocks and Wylie produced two aces and an impressive 10 blocks. Along with tabbing her first collegiate double-double in kills and blocks, Wylie surpassed the 1,000 career kill mark for the Waves during the senior day matchup.
THE COMPETITION — Against Santa Clara, the Waves have posted a 43-33 overall record all-time, with the first-ever win coming in 1982 on a neutral court with a 2-0 finish. The Waves' longest winning streaks were seven-matches from 1985-88, and six wins apiece from 1989-91 and 2001-03. SCU had a six-match streak of their own from 2007-09, but last season, Pepperdine won both, 3-0 on the road and 3-1 at home. This season, SCU has posted an 18-10 overall record and has gone 8-7 in league action, including a 3-1 loss to Pepperdine in Firestone Fieldhouse earlier in the season.
Pepperdine has posted a 62-7 all-time record against San Francisco, dating back to the 1985 sesaon when the Waves won in four sets at home. Then, Pepperdine went on a 16-match winning streak before the 49ers won their first five-set matchup in 1993. After posting another 29-straight wins from 1993-2007, the opposition won for the second time. Since losing the 6th match overall to USF in 2014, the Waves have put in nine-consecutive wins. Last season, the Waves put in a 3-1 win on the road and a straight-set sweep at home. This season, the Dons have gone 7-19 overall with a 3-12 output in WCC play, including a four-set loss to the Waves in Malibu earlier this season.
BYU is the only WCC school that has a winning record against Pepperdine with a 27-7 lead since 1976. In the first meeting, however, the Waves won 2-0, before the Cougars won the following four matches. The last time the Waves took wins over BYU was from 200-2011 when the team collected four 3-1 victories in 2000, 2005, and 2011 twice. BYU is currently on a 14-match winning streak over Pepperdine including two 3-0 wins last season. This season, the Cougars ahve gone 22-4 overall and 13-2 in the West Coast Conference, including a three-set win over Pepperdine earlier this season in Firestone.
