Box Score MALIBU, Calif. — Three players with double-digit kill efforts, led by
Hannah Frohling with 16-smashes, propelled the Pepperdine women's volleyball team to a straight-set sweep over Gonzaga on Saturday afternoon in Firestone Fieldhouse.
Pepperdine kept Gonzaga to a .065 hitting percentage with only 19 kills, while sporting 43 kills on a .232 success rate on the home team's side.  The Waves (8-8) have advanced the team's West Coast Conference record to 4-1 on the season with the win over the Zags (6-10, 0-4 WCC).

Along with the higher hitting percentage, the Waves led with nine aces to two and 41 digs o 35 over the Zags. The opposition did post a match-high 9.0 blocks, as opposed to Pepperdine's 5.0 team blocks on the day.

The Waves rolled out to a staggering 11-5 open in the first set, featuring a strong service presence from
Hannah Frohling and multiple kills from both Frohling and
Shannon Scully. Pepperdine kept moving forward, with blocks from Frohling and
Tarah Wylie, along with eight-straight service attempts by
Hana Lishman featuring a pair of aces en route to a 21-10 advantage. In the final moments, Wylie and Scully went back-to-back for the 25-13 set win.

The second set would prove much closer. Despite an 8-4 Pepperdine lead to open, Gonzaga countered with a 4-0 run to tie the score. The teams then exchanged points through 10-10, 15-15 and 23-23 scores into the final moments of action. After the tie,
Tayah Mahi pushed two balls out – both to Wylie on the slide and the Waves closed the set down 25-23 to put themselves in a position to sweep.

The Waves would do just that, commanding the final moments of the third set after an 11-11 tied score. Lishman and
Madison Shields and more solid service outputs, with kills from Frohling and a block from Wylie and Mahi included towards a staggering 20-12 lead.Â
Kayleigh Hames would come in to serve and put the opposition on their heels, helping the cause as Wylie closed the match with a solo rejection and a kill for a 25-13 set win and the straight-set WCC sweep.

NEXT UP
Next week, Pepperdine makes the short trip to Loyola Marymount for the next installment in the PCH Cup battle at the Gersten Pavilion. The match will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 11 and will be the first time the two teams have faced this season.
