Women's Soccer Visits San Diego on Friday

MALIBU, California — The Pepperdine women's soccer team has three regular-season matches left as the Waves push for a bid to the NCAA Tournament. The next two are on the road, starting with this Friday night's contest at San Diego.
The Waves, who stand at #49 in the NCAA RPI, are in third place in the WCC with 12 points after six matches.
MATCH #17 — Friday (November 1) at Torero Stadium in San Diego, California: Pepperdine (8-6-2, 4-2-0) at San Diego (6-8-1, 2-4-0) at 7 p.m.

OPPONENT — Pepperdine is 14-11-2 all-time against San Diego. The Waves have won three in a row, all by shutout, including a 3-0 victory in the last visit to USD in 2017, and a 2-0 win in Malibu last year. Joelle Anderson scored a goal in each of the last two games. The Waves have a 6-7-1 record in San Diego, but have won in three of their last four trips there.
LAST GAME — The Waves had season highs for shots (30), shots on goal (15) and goals in a 4-0 victory over visiting Pacific on Saturday. Devyn Gilfoy and Joelle Anderson scored for the second consecutive game to put the Waves up 2-0 at halftime, and Erin Sinai and Madi Cook scored their first career goals late in the second half. The Waves got their eighth shutout of the season.
NOTABLE — The win over Portland was the 250th in Tim Ward's career ... The win over Gonzaga was the 300th in program history ... Thirteen different Waves have scored a goal this year while five of them — Joelle Anderson, Devyn Gilfoy, Shelby Little, Leyla McFarland and Hailey Stenberg — are tied with for the team high with three apiece ... McFarland also leads with five assists (tied for eighth in the WCC) and 11 points ... Kinsey Ehmann is first in the WCC in shutouts per game (0.46), third in goals-against average (1.28), third in save percentage (.754) and fourth in saves per game (4.00) ... The Waves' defense, which has four sophomores across the back line and a redshirt freshman goalkeeper, is fourth in the WCC in goals-against average (1.20) and tied for second in shutouts (eight). At the other end of the field, they're fifth in scoring at 1.62 goals per game ... Pepperdine played one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the country. The combined win-loss record of their non-conference opponents in 2018 was 120-62-20 (.643), and five of them won matches in the 2018 NCAA Tournament. Five of the 10 opponents were nationally ranked at the time of the game, and another was receiving votes. Most notably, the Waves beat then-#2 Stanford and tied Texas A&M and UCLA. Including conference play, nine total opponents have been ranked or receiving votes at the time of the game ... The Waves are assured of a winning record at home for the 27th time in the program's 27 years.
