Waves Open Season at Big XII Schools

MALIBU, California — The #18 Pepperdine women's soccer team heads to Big XII country to start the 2018 season as the two-time defending West Coast Conference champions will visit Kansas and Texas Tech this weekend.
MATCH #1 — Friday (August 17) at Rock Chalk Park in Lawrence, Kansas: Pepperdine (0-0) at Kansas (0-0) at 5 p.m. PT/7 p.m. CT.
MATCH #2 — Sunday (August 19) at the John Walker Soccer Complex in Lubbock, Texas: Pepperdine at Texas Tech (0-0, hosts New Mexico on Friday) at 5 p.m. PT/7 p.m. CT.
ONLINE — The Kansas game will be shown on ESPN+ and the Texas Tech game will be available on TexasTech.tv. Links to both the broadcasts and live stats can be found at PepperdineWaves.com.
OPPONENTS — Pepperdine is 2-1-1 all-time against Kansas. The Waves won in their only previous trip to Lawrence, 3-1, in 2006. The two schools tied 1-1 in the last meeting in 2016 in Malibu ... Pepperdine is 1-0-0 all-time against Texas Tech after a 3-0 home victory last season. Devyn Gilfoy and Danielle Thomas had the first two goals.
NOTABLE — The Waves are 16-5-4 all-time in season openers. They had been unbeaten in eight straight before a neutral-site loss to Texas A&M last year. In true road games, the Waves are 3-1-2 in season openers ... This is only the second time in program history that the Waves have begun a season with two true road games (1996, won at San Jose State and lost at Santa Clara) ... Pepperdine's non-conference opponents won 60% of their games last season (106-66-27).
