MALIBU, Calif. " The Pepperdine baseball team clinched at least a share of the regular season West Coast Conference championship on Saturday, defeating Portland 6-2 at Eddy D. Field. Jonathan Pendergast continued his hot streak on the mound, going seven innings and striking out 10 Pilots.
The at-least partial share of the WCC title will be the Waves' (29-21, 17-9 WCC) 18th title in program history. With the loss, the Pilots fell to 22-29 and 11-15 in WCC play.

- Junior RHP Jonathan Pendergast (San Diego, Calif./Cathedral Catholic HS) was masterful in his seven innings of work, adding 10 strikeouts and giving up only one run.
- Junior infielder Chase Lambert (Malibu, Calif./Malibu HS) went 2-for-4 on the day, including a 2-RBI double in the second inning to start the scoring for the Waves.
- Freshman infielder Brandt Belk (Houston, Texas/Westside HS) had a 2-RBI single in the second.

The Waves got the scoring started in the second inning when a single from Joe Caparis loaded the bases and Chase Lambert hit a double down the line, scoring two runs. Brandt Belk came up right after and poked a single up the middle, scoring Caparis and Lambert to give the Waves a 4-0 lead after two innings.
In the fifth inning, Josh Davis tripled down the right field line, scoring Quincy McAfee from first, giving the Waves a five-run lead after five innings.
Portland got a run in the sixth inning on an RBI-double from Cody Hawken to cut the Waves lead to 5-1.
The Waves came back in the bottom of the seventh inning and scored another run off an RBI groundout from Davis. After seven innings, the Waves led 6-1.
The Pilots scored one run in the ninth, but the Waves defense held them to just the one to take the 6-2 victory.

The Waves can capture sole possession of the WCC title Sunday in the rubber match with the Pilots. Sunday will also be senior day, as Pepperdine honors seven seniors in their final game at Eddy D. Field Stadium. First pitch is set at 1 p.m.
