
#2 Waves Go Undefeated at Zuma Beach this Season

MALIBU, Calif. " The No. 2 Pepperdine beach volleyball team gave Head Coach Nina Matthies a true Zuma Beach send off on Saturday afternoon, highlighting the Hall of Famer's final coaching day on the home courts with a pair of wins over No. 12 Arizona and No. 5 Cal Poly. Matthies' all-time record at Zuma Beach now and forever will stand at 42-2.for a .955 winning percentage at home.
The wins over Arizona (16-10) and Cal Poly (23-5) closed out the Waves (21-3) home matches for the season. Pepperdine went undefeated at Zuma Beach this season with an 8-0 record. Seniors Corinne Quiggle and Maddie Dilfer, along with Matthies, were celebrated after the matches.

Maddie Dilfer and Nikki Lyons would do the honors on court five with a 21-18, 21-14 victory over Caroline Cordes and Sara Watanabe. The Wildcats then took a win on four, but the Waves countered with another win on three to close the match. Heidi Dyer and Gigi Hernandez bested Kacey Nady and Makenna Martin 21-16, 21-19 to make it a 4-1 win for the home team.
In the second match, the Waves set out to get redemption from the opening match of the season against Cal Poly. Pepperdine cruised through the first sets with five-of-five wins to once again set the tone early.
Dyer and Hernandez were the first to finish with a 21-16, 21-13 win over Adlee Van Winden and Taylor Nelson on court three. Then on five, Lyons and Dilfer collected their second win of the day with a 21-19, 21-15 victory over Heather Pembroke and Hannah Hubbard.
Skylar Caputo and Alexis Filippone would be the Waves to clinch on court four, as the duo downed Rae Greisen and Macy Gordon 21-17, 24-22 for the overall Waves' win. Pepperdine wasn't finished, however, as Bauer and Roh put down Emily Jonny and Samantha Manley 22-20, 21-16 win on court two.
After falling in the second set, Quiggle and Kraft rallied back to grit out a solid 21-17, 13-21, 15-12 match win in the No. 1 position over Torrey Van Winden and Tia Miric to complete the 5-0 Waves' sweep.
