LOS ANGELES, Calif. " Madalyn Roh and Brook Bauer clinched the No. 2 Pepperdine beach volleyball team's 3-2 win over No. 4 USC on Tuesday evening at the Merle Norman Stadium, marking the Waves fourth-consecutive win over the Trojans this season.

The Waves (19-3) went up 2-0 after the first flight of action over the Trojans (17-9). Although the second flight was tight, Roh and Bauer buckled down for the overall victory in the No. 2 position.

MATCH RECAP

The Waves four and five pairs started the day in the first flight and commanded a big presence over the Trojans from the opening moments of action. Skylar Caputo and Alexis Filippone finished first after downing Jenna Belton and Haley Hallgren with a 21-19, 21-12 win on court four. Maddie Dilfer and Nikki Lyons then put Pepperdine up 2-0 with a 21-18, 21-19 win on five over Katrina Kernochan and Alexandra Poletto.

USC came out strong in the second flight on all courts, but the Waves' No. 2 duo Brook Bauer and Madalyn Roh were dealing from the start. Pepperdine downed Joy Dennis and Brianna Sizemore in the first set 21-13. After the Trojans picked up wins on courts one and three to even the score, the match came down to the second set on court two. Roh and Bauer dealt with the pressure and rallied back from an early deficit to secure a 21-19 win and clinch the overall victory for the Waves.

NOTABLES

The Waves No. 4 pair Skylar Caputo and Alexis Filippone have the Waves' best record with a 21-1 output this season. The pair still ranks atop the country as a pair based on CollegeBeachVB.com.
The Waves have an 18-3 record against ranked opponents and have gone 7-3 when facing teams ranked in the AVCA top-5.
Pepperdine is currently ranked No. 1 in the AVCA coaches poll.
