SAN LUIS OBISPO, California " Three freshmen " Kaitlyn Davenport, Sheridan Davis and Abbey Meck " won heats and posted season-best times to lead the Pepperdine track teams at the Cal Poly Share SLO Invitational on Saturday.
Davenport (Bakersfield, Calif./Davenport HS) posted the Waves' best time in the 400 meters this year at 1:01.41. Meck (Santa Cruz, Calif./San Lorenzo Valley HS) did the same in the 1,500 at 4:49.96. And Davis (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge HS) moved from #5 to #4 on the Waves' all-time 100 hurdles list at 15.68.
"It was a cool, breezy day, with some good competition," Pepperdine Coach Robert Radnoti said.
In addition to those performances, Radnoti highlighted the men's 800 meters, which saw three Waves in the top 10 with freshman Brandon Davis (Troy, Mich./Troy HS) in eighth in 1:56.88, freshman Kieran Halewyn (Lake Oswego, Ore./Southridge HS) in ninth and sophomore Treet Allison (Canyon, Texas/Canyon HS) in 10th.
"Brandon's race was a breakthrough and having all of those guys under two minutes was really nice," he said.
Other Waves who finished with the women's team's best times were Davis in the 100, freshman Billie Gardner (Eagle, Idaho/Eagle HS) in the 200 freshman Taleah Phillips (Gibsons, B.C., Canada/Anacortes HS) in the 800, while for the men, it was senior Kevin Maeda (Highland, Calif./Citrus Valley HS) in the 1,500.
The next meet for the Waves is UCLA's Bob Larsen Distance Carnival on Friday and the Jim Bush Legends Invitational on Saturday (March 30-31).
