FULLERTON, California " Scottie Sandlin and Kevin Maeda turned in a pair of fourth-place finishes and Sheridan Davis and Brandon Davis both posted times good for the program's all-time top five lists as the Pepperdine men's and women's track teams competed at a rainy Ben Brown Invitational on Saturday.
"Today was either run in a light rain, or toward the end of the day a stronger rain, so it wasn't a day for PRs but it was a good workout for the team," Pepperdine Coach Robert Radnoti said. "It was a good day to get some competition in as we prepare for our future races."
Sandlin (Chattanooga, Tenn./Girls Preparatory School), a freshman, was fourth in the women's 400 meters, and she was followed in fifth place by fellow freshman Taleah Phillips (Gibsons, B.C., Canada/Anacortes HS).
Maeda (Highland, Calif./Citrus Valley HS), a senior, was fourth in the men's mile. Sophomore Jalen Frantal (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville Central HS) followed him in fifth place.
Freshman Sheridan Davis (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge HS) took sixth place in the women's 100 hurdles with a time of 16.30, putting her at #5 on the Waves' all-time top five in the event. Freshman Brandon Davis (Troy, Mich./Troy HS) had a PR and took eighth place in the men's 400 with a time of 52.36, keeping him at #4 on that event's top five.
For the women, Sheridan Davis was also sixth in the 100 meters, while the Waves' best-finishing runners in the other events were Sandlin in the 200, freshman Cassidy Aberson (Vacaville, Calif./Vacaville HS) in the 800 and freshman Lindsay Sanger (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson HS) in the mile.
For the men, sophomore Treet Allison (Canyon, Texas/Canyon HS) was fifth in the 800 meters.
Radnoti singled out the performances by Sandlin, Sheridan Davis and Maeda.
The next meet for the Waves is the UC Irvine Spring Break Invitational next Friday and Saturday (March 16-17).
