MALIBU, Calif. — Five players from the Pepperdine women's volleyball team garnered spots on All-West Coast Conference teams this season, with senior Blossom Sato and junior Hannah Frohling highlighting with first team nods, as announced the league office on Monday afternoon.
Â
In addition to Sato and Frohling, redshirt-junior Tarah Wylie and sophomore Shannon Scully earned honorable mention status and freshman Rachel Ahrens garnered a spot on the WCC All-Freshman squad.
Â
Sato picks up her first WCC honor with her first team recognition. She garnered WCC Player of the Week honors on October 15 and earned a spot on the Panther Classic All-Tournament team earlier this season. The setter has been an instrumental playmaker for Pepperdine this season, averaging 10.81 assists/set with 1,103 total assists which ranks 38th and 77th in the nation respectively. She has also posted 22 aces, 212 digs for 2.08 digs/set and 0.40 kills/set and 0.34 blocks/set. Sato has led the Waves to the team's first 20-plus win record since 2012 after helping the team to 13.52 kills/set on a .255 success rate this season.
Â
This is Frohling's second All-WCC nod after receiving honorable mention honors last season. Earlier this season, she was named WCC Player of the Week on September 24 and also picked up a spot on the Pepperdine Asics Classic All-Tournament Team. She has been a mainstay on the court for the Waves this season, averaging 3.22 kills/set on a 2.51 success rate, along with a team-best 36 aces for 0.37 aces/set. The outside hitter has also amassed 0.99 digs/set and 0.47 blocks/set for the Waves.
Â
Wylie picks up her second All-WCC honorable mention accolade this season. She achieved the feat in her 2016 sophomore season and also earned WCC Freshman of the Year honor in 2015 along with a spot on the WCC All-Freshman team that year. This season, the middle blocker has been a force to be reckoned with on the court, amassing 0.85 blocks/set with 87 blocks including 10 block solos. She also adds an impressive 2.01 kills/set on a .335 clip, along with 24 aces and 54 digs for 0.24 aces/set and 0.53 digs/set.
Â
Scully transferred in this season from Utah and made an immediate impact to the Waves' program, earning a WCC Player of the Week nod on November 21 and a spot on the Panther Challenge All-Tournament team. She picks up an honorable mention honor after leading the Waves with 3.28 kills/set this season, after marking 331 kills with 127 errors on 911 swings. The outside hitter has also amassed 27 aces for 0.27 aces/set, 306 digs for 3.03 digs/set and 39 blocks including one solo for 0.39 blocks/set. Scully leads the team with 13 double-doubles this season.
Â
Ahrens joined the Waves as a true freshman on the right side this season and her presence is notable. She garnered a spot on the Pepperdine Asics Classic All-Tournament team earlier in the season. Although sidelined for a few matches this season, the opposite was solid with 3.27 kills/set on a .314 output after charting only 68 errors on 472 swings. She also amassed 88 digs for 1.33 digs/set, 47 blocks for 0.71 blocks/set and 17 aces for 0.26 aces/set for her team.
