Sato Garners West Coast Conference Player of the Week Honors

MALIBU, Calif. — Senior setter Blossom Sato led the Pepperdine women's volleyball team to a convincing sweep over PCH Cup rival Loyola Marymount on Saturday. As a result of her performance in leading the Waves to a .371 hitting percentage, she garnered West Coast Conference Player of the Week accolades, as released by the league on Monday morning.

This is the second honor the Waves have received this year, with junior Hannah Frohling achieving the feat on September 14. The Waves currently sit at 2nd place in the WCC standings this week and LMU placed 3rd. Each PCH Cup rival was receiving votes in the AVCA Coaches Poll last week as well, with the Waves earning two votes and the Lions six.Â

Sato propelled her team to three 25-18 set wins over the Lions, dishing out 37 assists for 12.33 assists/set en route to a .371 collective team hitting percentage. Sato also posted 1.67 digs/set with five digs, 0.67 blocks/set with two block assists and 0.33 total points.Â

She assisted the Waves to 46 kills with only 10 errors on 97 swings. She spread out the offense to five players hitting above a .312 hitting percentage and five players with six kills or more. Two players hit for double-figure kills with 14 on a .357 clip and 13 on a .346 output respectively. She also helped the middles to seven kills on a .583 percentage and six kills on a .417 output respectively.Â
