Sparked by the first set deficit, the Waves came out with the intention of tying the match in the second set. After a 6-6 tie, Pepperdine busted out to a 17-11 lead with and ace from Harthaller, blocks from Chamberlain and Harriman and smashes from Wexter and Wieczorek. The opposition started to put a few points together after that, but Pepperdine shut the door and a Spencer Wickens' ace, followed by back-to-back Wieczorek and Harriman kills resulted in the Waves 25-16 set win to tie the match.
Pepperdine didn't let up in the third set either and came out of the starting gate towards an 11-5 lead. A late Harriman ace kept the Waves ahead 18-11, but late runs by the Cardinals made it a close set. Pepperdine picked up the first set-point option at the 24-20 mark. Ball State was able to fight off the Waves, but Pepperdine prevailed and a final kill from Harthaller earned a 25-23 set win to make it a 2-1 Waves' advantage.
The fourth set was no question the Waves from the beginning, as Pepperdine came out to a 14-6 lead with big services from Mullahey and Wexter and blocks from Wieczorek, Chamberlain and Harriman. With the momentum on high and the win in sight, the Waves went in full swing towards the finish line. An ace from Harthaller and kills from Wieczorek ended the match with a 25-14 fourth set win and 3-1 match victory.
