
Waves' Comeback Falls Short Against BYU

MALIBU, Calif. " The Pepperdine women's basketball team made a push in the second half, but couldn't come all the way back against BYU on Thursday night, falling 73-65 at home in a West Coast Conference matchup.
The Waves outscored BYU 38-32 through the final two periods, but it wasn't enough to overcome a 12-point halftime deficit. Pepperdine falls to 6-9 overall, 2-3 WCC, while the Cougars move to 9-7 overall, 4-1 WCC.

• Keyari Sleezer scored all 11 of her points in the second half.
• Monique Andriuolo had 10 points and was tied for the team lead with five rebounds.

The Waves led early, but BYU ended the first quarter on a 14-4 run to take a 22-17 lead into the second period. A more than four-minute scoreless drought in the second quarter would put Pepperdine down by double digits and BYU would take a 41-29 lead into the half.
Pepperdine would come back thanks to a 17-14 third quarter, cutting it back to a single-digit deficit heading into the final period. The Waves got even closer in the fourth, making it a 55-50 game in the first minute. A three-pointer by Sitanggan made it a 62-58 contest with 5:32 to play. That was a close as the Waves would come however. Pepperdine pushed the deficit back to four twice more down the stretch, the second time coming with 1:25 to go on a Peyton Langston jumper. BYU scored the next four points to keep the Waves at bay, though.
