
Pepperdine Drops 75-62 Decision at Saint Mary's

MORAGA, Calif. " The Pepperdine women's basketball team played close with second-place Saint Mary's for most of the afternoon, but Megan McKay's 28 points for the Gaels were too much to overcome as the Waves fell 75-62 on the road.
Pepperdine falls to 6-10 overall and 2-4 in West Coast Conference play, while Saint Mary's moves to 12-5, 5-1. The Waves stayed within single digits for most of the game, but a run in the fourth quarter put the game just out of reach.

The Gaels jumped out to a quick lead and pushed it to a 12-point advantage midway through the second quarter. Pepperdine came back, using an 11-4 run, courtesy of a pair of threes by Pflug and one by Paige Fecske, to cut it to a 35-30 game with 2:48 left in the half. Saint Mary's would take a 41-33 lead into the break.
Carter hit a three and a two-point jumper to spark a run early in the second half as the Waves cut it back to a four-point game, 48-44, midway through the third quarter. The teams traded three-pointers in the final 10 seconds of the quarter and the Gaels took a 56-50 lead into the fourth. Pepperdine hung close into the final period, but Saint Mary's used an 8-0 run to open up a 68-43 lead and force a Wave timeout with 4:25 to play. Pepperdine cut it to a 10-point game twice down the stretch, but that was as close as they would come.
