MALIBU, Calif. – Pepperdine women's basketball took the court for the first time with a dominating 100-32 exhibition win over Azusa Pacific Wednesday night in Firestone Fieldhouse.
"I love this team," Head coach Katie Faulkner said. "I am excited to go to work and start the season."
Defense shined for the Waves as the visiting Azusa Pacific Cougars scored just 10 in the first half, five in each 10-minute stretch. Racking up points, Pepperdine dropped 21 in the first quarter and 27 in the second.
With a 48-10 lead at the half, the Waves did not let up in the latter 20 minutes of play. Matching the second quarter's 27 points in the third, Pepperdine had a commanding 75-26 lead heading into the fourth.
Breaking the 100 point barrier to close the game out, the Waves won their one and only exhibition match 100-32 Wednesday night. By record, it is the first time Pepperdine has scored 100 since 2014, doing so against Santa Clara in a 100-93 win. This is the first time under coach Faulkner the Waves have scored triple-digits.
Officially kicking the season off on the road, the Waves travel north to take on Portland State Monday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. with the game available to stream on ESPN+ (subscription required) as well as live stats available on www.pepperdinewaves.com.
