SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The Pepperdine baseball team dropped the final game in the series against San Francisco on Sunday, 18-4.
The Dons improve to 24-25, 9-15 WCC on the year, while the Waves fall to 18-27, 7-14 WCC.
The Waves scored three runs in the second inning, on a two-RBI double by Aharon Modlin (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge HS), and a single from Jeremy Goldenetz (Corona, Calif./Corona Santiago HS) to plate Modlin. Pepperdine would finish the game with 13 hits.
From then on, it was all Dons, who answered back in the second inning, scoring six runs, and then coming right back in the third, scoring seven, to take a ten run lead that they would refuse to give up. The Dons would score two more runs in the fourth, two in the sixth, and one in the seventh to finish with 18 runs on 24 hits in the game.
Freshman Wil Jensen (Murray, Utah/Cottonwood HS) started the game and picked up the loss for the Waves, falling to 2-7 on the year. He went just two innings before Chandler Blanchard came on in the third. Benjamin Slattery (Geneva, Ill./Geneva HS) would come in after Blanchard, with Christian Stoutland (Calabasas, Calif./Oaks Christian HS) finishing off the game for the Waves.
For the Dons, Allen Smoot went 4-4, Riley Helland went 4-6, Nico Giarratano went 3-6, and Manny Ramirez Jr. went 3-5.
The Waves host their final non-conference game against Cal Poly on Tuesday at 3 p.m., before hosting the final home series against St. Mary's beginning Friday. All games will be streamed live on theW.tv.
