
No. 11 Pepperdine Sweeps Through to WCC Championship Finals

RESULTSMALIBU, Calif.: After a late comeback doubles effort by Apichaya Runglerdkriangkrai and Luisa Stefani, the 11th-ranked Pepperdine women's tennis team completed a 4-0 sweep over 4th-seeded San Diego at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center on Friday afternoon, earning a spot in the West Coast Conference Championship finals.
The Waves (20-4, 9-0 WCC) split doubles matches on court one and three, as 7th-ranked Mayar Sherif and Christine Maddox bested Daniela Morales and Gemma Garcia with a 6-3 result. After dropping on three and looking at a 4-5 deficit in the No. 2 position, 45th-ranked Runglerdkriangkrai and Stefani buckled down and battled back to win the next three games and clinch the doubles point with a 7-5 victory over Nicole Anderson and Colomba DiFilippo.
The Waves then won in the No. 6, No. 1 and No. 3 positions to clinch the 10th-sweep over WCC opposition this season.
In singles action, Dzina Milovanovic continued the winning ways with a 6-1, 6-4 dominating win over Sophia Chow in the No. 6 position. Then, the Waves' 12th-ranked Stefani crushed Nicole Anderson in the No. 1 position with a 6-3, 6-2 mark to put her team in clinching position.
Pepperdine's 36th-ranked Sherif was up to the task and clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Gemma Garcia to send the Waves into the WCC Championships.
The Waves have competed in every singles WCC Championship finals since 1995, winning the last four consecutive tournaments to earn a bid into the NCAA Tournament. The team will face No. 2 Gonzaga at 10 a.m. in the finals tomorrow, April 29. Earlier this season, Pepperdine swept the Bulldogs at home.
