
Harmon & Sauvant Wrap Up Play for Women’s Tennis at Battle in the Bay Classic

SAN FRANCISCO — Pepperdine women's tennis sophomore Alexia Harmon and graduate student Chantal Sauvant wrapped up competition at the Battle in the Bay Classic this week, held at California Tennis Club.
The four-day tournament featured men's and women's singles and doubles draws with players from top programs across the country.
Harmon and Sauvant each earned a pair of singles wins on the week, with both Waves advancing into the singles consolation semifinals. Georgia's Patricija Paukstyte took home the women's singles title while collecting the doubles championship alongside Nadia Lagaev.
Harmon and Sauvant each fell in three sets in the main draw round of 32. Harmon battled back from an 0-5 deficit in the first set tiebreak to claim the tiebreak 8-6, before falling in sets two and three.
Into the consolation draw, both Waves rebounded with straight set wins. Harmon took down San Jose's Soledad Fayos Capilla in two sets, dropping just five games, while Sauvant earned a 7-5, 6-4 victory over San Jose's Emma Fantousis.
The Waves continued their run into the consolation quarterfinals, with Harmon defeating Cal's Mille Johanna Moerk in straight sets. Sauvant then gave Pepperdine two of the four semifinalists with a two-set win over Georgia's Ava Rodriguez, dropping just three games. Pepperdine's run came to end in the semis.
In doubles, Harmon and Sauvant fell in a pair of matches to Colorado and UC Santa Barbara.

The Waves will have multiple ITF pro events in the coming weeks leading up to the ITA Southwest Regionals in San Diego from Oct. 15-19.

Pepperdine women's tennis has been a consistent powerhouse in the collegiate scene, reaching 41 NCAA Tournaments since 1982 including 29 straight appearances.
