Women’s Tennis Sends Harmon & Sauvant to Battle in the Bay Classic

MALIBU, Calif. — Pepperdine women's tennis continues fall action this week as Alexia Harmon and Chantal Sauvant head to San Francisco for the Battle in the Bay Classic, running Thursday through Sunday at the California Tennis Club.
The four-day tournament features men's and women's singles and doubles draws with athletes from top programs across the country. Competition begins Thursday, with the finals set for Sunday. Both Waves will contest the singles and doubles draw.
Harmon returns to familiar territory after capturing the doubles title at the tournament last season alongside Anastasiia Grechkina. The Pepperdine duo had a perfect 4-0 mark on their way to earning the trophy, while Grechkina completed a Pepperdine sweep by also winning the singles crown. Harmon also earned a pair of singles wins to advance to the quarterfinals in 2025.
The duo will begin with a doubles round of 16 matchup against Colorado at 10:45 a.m. tomorrow. Harmon will then begin singles with a round of 32 tilt with Duke's Claire An at 3:30 p.m., with Sauvant set to take on USC's Kiara Zabkova at 6 p.m. Harmon and Sauvant played five doubles matches as a tandem this past spring, posting a 3-2 record.
The tournament will mark Harmon's first collegiate action this fall. The Las Vegas native put together a 16-2 singles record during dual-match play this past spring, including a perfect 5-0 mark against WCC opponents, while ending the season on a 14-match winning streak. She earned All-WCC Singles Honorable Mention following the regular season.
Sauvant posted a 1-1 singles record at the ITA All-American Championships last week, and currently sits at No. 70 in the ITA singles rankings. She had a strong debut collegiate season this past spring, posting a 16-4 singles record and 16-6 doubles mark, earning All-WCC recognition in both singles and doubles for the Waves.
The Battle in the Bay Classic marks Pepperdine's second collegiate event of the fall after the Waves opened the season at the ITA All-American Championships in Cary, N.C. Pepperdine is scheduled to compete three more collegiate events during the fall in addition to multiple pro tournaments leading up to the NCAA Singles & Doubles Championships in November.

The Waves will have multiple ITF pro events in the coming weeks leading up to the ITA Southwest Regionals in San Diego from Oct. 15-19.

Pepperdine women's tennis has been a consistent powerhouse in the collegiate scene, reaching 41 NCAA Tournaments since 1982 including 29 straight appearances. Since 2018, the program has seen three national runner-ups between both singles and doubles while reaching an NCAA Super Regional as a team nine times in the past ten tournaments. The success at the conference level has been paramount with 34 WCC Championships including an active streak of 12 consecutive conference titles.
