MALIBU, Calif. — Pepperdine women's tennis will see four athletes compete this week at the ITA Southwest Regionals in San Diego, co-hosted between San Diego State and the University of San Diego. Competition is set for Oct. 15-20.
Each of the 13 ITA regionals will qualify two singles spots (finalists) and one doubles spot (champion) for the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship from Nov. 17-22 in Athens, Ga.
The Waves will see Živa Falkner, Anastasiia Grechkina, Alexia Harmon and Chantal Sauvant in action in singles, with each in the main draw beginning Friday. Grechkina and Sauvant are also the top-seed in the doubles draw while Harmon and Falkner are seeded eighth, with each Pepperdine pairing having a bye into the round of 32.
Athletes from 18 schools will compete in the tournament, featuring Arizona, Arizona State, Cal Poly, CSU Fullerton, CSU Northridge, Grand Canyon, Hawai'i, Long Beach State, Loyola Marymount, Pepperdine, San Diego, San Diego State, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UCLA, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, UCLA and USC.
Grechkina is the reigning singles champion at the event, having claimed the title in 2025 which clinched her a spot at the NCAA Singles Championship. She began the fall campaign at the ITA All-American Championships last month, earning three ranked wins including a victory over No. 2 Carmen Herea.
Falkner will look to clinch a berth to the Singles Championship in her first fall season with the Waves. She earned WCC Co-Player of the Year in the spring after leading the Waves at the No. 1 position on their way to the WCC Championship and an NCAA Quarterfinal berth.
Harmon and Sauvant each recently competed at the Battle in the Bay Classic earlier this month, with both picking up a pair of singles victories on the way to the consolation semifinals.
Grechkina and Sauvant emerged as a consistent doubles pairing for the Waves last spring, finishing with a 12-4 overall record together. The tandem is currently ranked No. 31 in the ITA doubles rankings. They will take on either CSU Fullerton's Markov/Lugon or LMU's Druz/Perovani in their opening match tomorrow.
Falkner and Harmon played just one doubles match together last spring, earning a win at Santa Clara. They will take on the winner of SDSU's Tirunelveli/Gijnaj versus CSUN's Arguelles/Shepperson tomorrow afternoon.
The singles main draw schedule is yet to be announced.
